Trying to match the bass sound on that track. I've got a synth pedal that I can set as dry as it will possibly go that is getting me about 40% of the way there, but it's got a really particular bass tone that I'd love to nail. If I remember right, I think Flea did the bass line, so I'm hoping it's an obscure but off the shelf pedal.
There's an SNL version that I really like. This is has the exact same band & flavour. It's live, so not really the tone from the recording that you're looking for. Just food-for-thought.
I always thought Flea only recorded You Oughta Know. Listening now, I'd wonder if that's keyboard synth. Great album.
Yeah, him and Dave only cut the one track. The bass player is Lance Morrison... for the rest of the album aside from "Hand in my Pocket" because that is a synth bass keyboard, played by Glen Ballard who produced the album. Glen really changed Alanis' sound and really helped to craft that album. Alanis was a successful pop starlet pre-Jagged Little Pill but I think she was only Canadian famous. Jagged Little Pill was one of, if not the, first albums I bought as a child so I know way too much about it. What a fantastic album. Jagged Little Pill - Wikipedia
Fair enough, so it sounds like I was headed down the right path with the synth pedal. The problem is, the synth pedal I use is much more geared towards stevie wonder style synth than this kind of tone. Anyone know any effect that would match it well. I may try the EHX one this weekend.
Nice. Thanks for the new version to check out. Made me feel a thousand years old though; is it me or was that drummer basically sponsored by the 90's. I remember him being all over Mtv (skipping the obligatory "back when they played music" rant).
Ah spot on. It makes sense now. I didn't recognize him, but I felt like "damn, I saw that guy more than I saw my girfriend for a few years."
