I had a ring finger fracture in a car accident (may 2019) and associated tendon damage. Like a boxer's fracture. My hand was the size of a grapefruit. I was actually able to play a little with index and middle finger only after a couple of weeks. This was a spiral fracture and the bone moved such that i no longer have a knuckle there. I found that moving the other two fingers was helpful in keep the hand mobile, even with a splint on. 4 months later and my hand is still noticably stiff in the morning so it takes awhile to warm up. The ring finger is only now able to lift off the string well. I did a lot of transcriptions during that time and worked on right hand fingering technique. Also tried to get better with a pick (but i still suck at that lol).Once i was cleared by the doc I do kettlebell swings which requires some grip strength. It help with rebuilding strength for me.
Good luck.
