Hands on Shuttle 6.0/9.0 vs 6.2/9.2?

Hi all

Im guessing very few people have been able to A/B the new .2 models over the older .0 models.

I would like to get a brighter amp with more high mids to compliment my Streamliner 900.

There are great deals on the 6.0/9.0....should I take the plunge or save for the latest and greatest .2 models?

I could probably get away with the 6.0/6.2 volume wise.

I was heading for a SMax 9.2 but the prices in the UK are quite high and I'd like to stick to the non-Max size.

If I give it some time I might even opt for the 6.2 combo, but its obviously a lot more than just a 6.0 or 9.0.

IIRC, KJung said there was a big difference, tonewise, between the 6.0 and 6.2 Shuttle, but not so much between the 9.0 and 9.2 Shuttle. Might want to checkout his thread on the new Shuttles.

I hated the 6.0 and love my 9.0. I felt the 6.0 had no lows, no balls, and no uumph! The 9.0 has all of that.
So are you saying there's a big difference between the 9.0 and 9.2??

I believe the 9.2 is different compared to the 9.0 in two areas: 1. A slight re-voicing of the shape filter frequencies and 2. The use of 3DPM power limiting, which sounds and feels REALLY GOOD when you hit the power output limits of the amp. It feels very tube-like in the low-end when the 3DPM kicks in. Good stuff. For me, the 3DPM was enough to spend extra on a new Shuttle 9.2, as I like to push my amps hard. For someone else, maybe not so much, and taking advantage of the diminishing stock of 9.0 and the better pricing might be ideal. Possibly Agedhorse can kick in here, but I believe those are the only real differences between the 9.0 and the 9.2.

" FYI, the changes to the 9.2 from the 9 are pretty subtle.... a touch different voicing of the voicing buttons, a touch more gain capability with the gain control for overdriving, and the updated power management.

IMO, there would be little reason for an owner of the 9.0 to upgrade to the 9.2. Just a nice subtle upgrade.

The Shuttle 12 is a similar subtle upgrade to the 12.2, and the look has changed to match the format of the Max 9.2 and Shuttle 9.2

The big change is the 6.2, which has a different look, and quite a different low end voicing, making it more like a lower powered Shuttle 9.2 versus the quite different sounding 6 versus 9. (edit: The Shuttle cabs have been beefed up also.... much more booty than the originals, and a nice new look to match the new 6.2 graphics and color).

So, for the 9 and 12 series, just a nice subtle update for potential new buyers, without in any way making the Max 12 or the Shuttle 9 obsolete."

I'm happy enough with my 6.0, but I'm tempted to ask if Genz can upgrade a 6.0 to a 6.2. It's kind of annoying because the 6.0 has been serving me well for a while now - two and a half years or so, I think. I'd be curious to A/B them myself. I respect the hell out of KJung, but what he claims as a night and day difference I might not notice at all! For better or worse, he's pretty picky. So in this case I sort of set Ken's opinion aside because I've been alright with the 6.0 as-is.

Apparently a big difference between the 6.0 and the 6.2 due to an opening up of the high-pass filter on the amplifier so that lower frequencies pass through in the 6.2 than were possible with the 6.0. Basically, a bigger bottom end. Add the 3DPM plus the voicing filter changes and the higher gain stage, and I think there is quite a bit of difference between the two units sonically.
