Hanging by a Moment - Lifehouse

There are way better "slow" songs to cover. Even something like Hinder - Lips Of An Angel, R.E.M. - The One I Love.

When you do slow songs I think the general idea is to get people into it and singing along. I'm not sure if the Lifehouse song was popular enough where people would be like, "boy I'm glad I'm hearing that again."

That's kinda why I am asking! I too like the song... but that doesn't mean it will be a success in todays bar.
Fishheadjoe

I wouldn't play it. I'd stick with older covers that still get radio play and that more people know. The Lifehouse song was ok in 2001, and radio played it for a while, but I havent heard that song on the radio in over 7-8 years.

70s, 80s, and 90s covers are most popular with most audiences IMO. I dont know if you should play in current rock covers, bc I cant actually name a current rock band.

I played this song in a cover band 10 years ago. Do people even listen to covers from the early 00s? I know 70s, 80s, and 90s covers go over still, but the 00s were a void.

You just need to know your venue but these 00's songs go over well just about everywhere.

Sex on fire
Paralyzer - Finger Eleven
Crazy Bitch
Take Me Out - Franz
Hash Pipe
Are You Gonna Go My Way
Hard To Handle
Snow, Dani California

Are You Going to Go My Way- 1992
Hard to Handle- 1991

Also, Paralyzer is from like 2007, and Dani California is from 2006... not exactly the time period I am referring to.

I am talking about songs right at the 10 year mark. Not current enough to be "contemporary hits", but not old enough to be "classics" yet.

but then again, im from and in the Philippines lol our radio stations are probably 6 months delayed or something

Not to go OT but I could never figure out how Lifehouse got away without getting sued by Pete Townsend.

Re 00's songs, a band I used to be in covered "Kryptonite" by 3 Doors Down. It is one of the most godawful boring songs EVER but crowds ate it up.

We used to cover that one too. I cant honestly see that one going over in clubs in 2011 though? Maybe I am wrong. The bars I go to are usually country or jazz (yeah, weird mix..).

Well, this is South Dakota we're talking about. Trends tend to lag behind the average out here... sometimes by a lot.

All I know is I'm really glad to be out of that band. Not just for that reason, but it's a big one. The crowds I play for now don't dig that faux-grunge stuff as much and I'm really OK with that.
