HAO Rust Ride vs Tech 21 XXLB (w/ clips)

Hey guys- as of right now, I am in a band who are only in the rehearsal stage, so I've been playing direct in the guitarists studio. I have had a bass for many years, however, have never owned a bass amp, never had the need (but boy do I have the desire). So, money being tight, and I had to make do. So I built a pedal board, and I have to say I am quite pleased with the results:
The chain is as follows:
Boss TU-2 --> Boss GEB-7 --> Johnson J-Station --> ART Tube MP studio mic pre.
The J-Station is a suprisingly useful tool, although they have been passed over by the POD's a long time ago. It has a few bass amp models in it, however, I've found the flat top acoustic model sounds great. With just a little bit of compression (inside the J-Station, although an MXR DynaComp does a great job as well), and a touch of reverb, and some very basic EQ. I use the GEB-7 to beef the tone and add a little sparkle on the top-end when needed. And the ART tube pre adds that crucial tube warmth. I picked up an ART tube pre a while back for 29.99, and thought what the heck, and I have been truly impressed. I now have two, and they work great for just about anything you could think of.
I'm begining to wonder if I need an amp at all now. I may just buy a power and cab, or maybe just run direct through P.A. for gigs. We'll see
