Happy Gilmore

'They wouldn't let me play on the pro tour!'

'Because you're black?'

'No! Damn alligator bit my hand off!'

'Oh my God!'

'Tore out one of that bastards eyes though'

'You're pretty sick aren't you Chubbs?'

I just wrote that (in fact all quotes so far) from memory. Me and my housemates have been caning that film way too hard lately...

Happy Gilmore is his 2nd best comedic work, IMO. His best:

Who cares if the plot is ridiculous? It's funny, damnit! :p

Adam Sandler has never been funny. Ever. The fact that he is a highly paid "actor" only proves that people have extremely low standards.

It's definitely his best movie, IMO. Pretty much everything he's done since Big Daddy (with the exception of Click and Zohan) has been garbage, though, especially Just Go With It, which was easily the worst movie I saw last year.

Adam Sandler's finest work?

Discuss.

Also, the bit part actors are all dire. Especially in the first 20-30 minutes or so.

It's one of the few Sandler movies I can really stand to watch. Many of the others are pretty bad and sometimes offensive (even to Sandler's characters). But I find Happy Gilmore to be quite funny and enjoyable. 50 First Dates was another decent one, but it did show that Sandler is no Tom Hanks when it comes to acting ability.

I don't know what "dire" means in the context of the original post. Its actual definition is: "Warning of or having dreadful or terrible consequences; calamitous."

I thought the movie was well cast, and I find nothing dire about any of the actors.
