Hard Case Mod-ding

I recent got a Jazz V and a Fender Chainsaw Case. I have noticed that the G string tuner comes in contact with the padding of the case. Is there any way to modify the case to make the head stock fit without contact of the pads. While the bass is rarely in the case, I would be concerned of continual use....any suggestions?

I have the same case... and a 4 string bass so I dont have the same issue. If it bothers you why not take your fingers and press into the foam really hard so it squishes it down and the tuner fits? the foam in hardshells is pretty flexable. same with my skb hardshell.

i guess that's really my question, is that all it is underneath or do I need to do something else? I would hate to try something and find out I screwed the case up in the process.

Cut it. If you cut the foam where the center of the tuner touches it, you should be able to pull the fur back and cut a little more foam out. If you take your time, it will be possible to tuck the fur back behind the foam. If you cut it, make sure that it clears the tuner in any positions I cut this out so an unopened pack of strings would fit my case.

If you mess it up, Its easy to put foam back in and re-cover it. Plus its good to learn if you ever have a bass that doesnt have a fitted case available[/ATTACH]

Sorry for not getting back sooner - I forgot about this thread... I've done a couple of different things - either squashed the padding down without disturbing the "fur", or carefully peeled the "fur" back so that I could get at the padding, trimmed or added to fit, then contact cemented the "fur" back in place... If done well enough, you'd think the case was made that way...

Looking at the pics, *I* would use the "peel back, cut, and reglue" method, since the tuner is pretty close to the edge of the case... Contact cement isn't very expensive, and is handy to have around the house... Odds are that the padding under the fur is only styrofoam, FWIW... I'd probably use the "squash" method for the tuners on the other side, if needed - because they don't appear to need much additional clearance...

I would peel the fur back from the edge of the case, then cut the foam out, and reglue the fur back into place - usually the fur can be peeled back that way without too much difficulty...
