Hard cases - do you use them?

I have a musicman stingray OHSC. It's cool -- but large, heavy, and inflexible. I find it annoying.

I was thinking to just sell this case. Does anyone else say to hell with their hard case, and just use a soft standard gigbag? I know it's possible, just wondering to hear from you guys :p

Ok i personally think that hardshell cases are really annoying but they provide better protection. I use the soft gig bags cause there more confortable to carry around and easier to handle. So i say hell to your hardshell and go get a soft gigbag

Nah. I love my SKB hard case. I have all kinds of stickers on it, and vinyls. Plus, it has a lock and lots of scratchs just like war scars.

My gig bag doesnt get any use, I just feel safer with my HSC.

Just my $0.02.

Hard case, yes. In fact, on break, in between sets, I put my bass back in the case and latch it shut. Stand the case behind my amp. After years of giging and witnessing many accidents involving people knocking stuff over, no stands on stage for me. Somebody could "fall" or step on your gigbag and destroy your bass. I'll use a gigbag going to and from practice, but never when the band loads in-out at a show.

Hard cases for me.......by the time all the other gear is in the car a bass in a soft case would easily be damaged. But I do agree they can be a PITA.

Sometimes a case, sometimes a gigbag. It depends on how far I`m going, the bass, etc.

I personally find HSC a bit uncomfortable to transport even in medium sized cars where I usually carry 2 or 3 people + some gear.

I never put any of my instruments in a soft case. Ever.

I feel attached to my basses, I treat them to way that I would want to be treated if I were a bass.

I still own my first bass and it's a perfect example of why you should always use a hard case (I'll post a picture sometime, it's depressing).

I absolutley prefer a HSC. Kudos to the comment about loading stuff up in a band truck, but also loading stuff in a tiny load-in area at a club. I have come back to find my bass, which had been placed standing up against the wall in its case, on the floor with what appeared to be a toppled 410 cab on top of it... no good. I will not use a gig bag.

I prefer gigbags. For more protection, http://www.casextreme.com/ is a clamshell-type case that goes around your gigbag.
