Hardcore/Post Hardcore Recommendations?

Hey everyone. I am just getting into playing hardcore/post hardcore music on my bass. I’ve always played hard rock but I’m getting into the hardcore scene and I was wondering what gear I should get? Mainly pedals, but also am wondering if I should get a new bass? I currently have an Ibanez Gio. But I was mainly wondering about the pedals I should buy. Thank you!

id say you're safe with a touch of dirt, a tuner, a comfy lightweight aggressive sounding bass and few 10 inch speakers. even if we're talking as far out there as thrice or chiodos (clearly far out in different directions), they never really go effects crazy on bass.

sansamp bass driver, a good tuner (cause theres a good deal of drop tuning), a 4x10 half stack, and your bass is likely sufficient for now.

oh. and picks. lots of them.

are you trying to go for a joe lally sound or more of a modern agressive sound?

keep in mind hardcore to many people is bands like minor threat, black flag, fang, void and post hardcore to the same people could be more stuff like nation of ulysses and fugazi

Yup, some close comparisons of bands would help a lot. Hardcore is a vast and varied genre!

got to agree with jptron, i used to use a grabber and a sunn 2000s, now i use a p bass and a mesa d180, but i like 115s for some reason i have an aversion to 10s (there may be great ones i just haven't played them ime)

my tone is either jesus and marychain type fuzzed out or nou style "clean" jazzy

He could also be talking about the modern hardcore bands more like miss may i and asking alexandria. Then it's just pick->bass (can be anything from fender to ibanez)->sansamp bddi(not even necessary)->cranked amp. It would be better if you could name a few bands you'd like first.

id suggest looking at artist and what they use Some great ones for any type of music are andy trick (devil wears prada) matt kean (bring me the horizon) joshua woodward (a day to remember) id suggest a fender j bass (all of those artists use one) which may seem weird since its a jazz bass but i prefer the sound, feel, and style of j bass pickups its your own preference though i dont think effects are all that important unless you want to make a unique noise id also suggest if you have the money get a music man bass max green(escape the fate) plays on one

I am. Sorry I didn't narrow it down. I'm talking about more modern hardcore. Thank you everyone for suggestions.
