Harley Benton Bass VI?

I'm interested in the Harley Benton Bass VI ( they sometimes call it the 'GuitarBass VI'), using it as a regular bass with high chordal possibilities rather than as a tenor guitar for metal (like a lot of the YouTube reviews seem to). The reviews I can find are generally positive, with some of the 'well I don't like this detail, but for the price...' comments that those of us who own H-B stuff understand and are used to. Do any of you have suggestions as to how to make it sound basslike, or generally optimise it (e,g, strings, p/ups, wiring)? I have in mind to get a used one and not be too precious about modifying it if that makes it work or sound better.

Thanks, Max

Not specifically for this bass, but owning an SRC6, I can tell you the stock .84 string set is too small. Easiest available is the Fender .100, or Newtone in the UK. I'm gonna try Kalium next with .105 or so stainless, and a brass nut.

The HB is stock with these;
  • String gauges: .024, .034, .044, .056, .072, .084
Can't help with the rest of the bass, but my usual comment is keep it stock for a few months and get used to it before spending money on it as you might just like it stock. My SRC has EMG DCs now, but I already owned them.
