Double Bass Harley Benton DB02 need ideas for a better stand

The endpin that came with with this bass is flimsy so I know I need to replace that. But the "body support" attachment is not very good either. Anyone found a good stand for their EUB, or maybe even made one. I'm thinking I may be able to fashion something out of a guitar stand or some other hardware. Looking for ideas or suggestions. Thanks!

It’s a Stagg EDB with a scroll pegbox. You might find something about it in the Stagg megathread.
They seem to have made some modifications over time, so be prepared that some thing described differ a bit from your instrument.

AFAIK there is a an EUB stand from Stagg and one from K&M (König & Meyer). But I haven’t used either of them because I got a modified mic stand with a used EUB. It basically any DB stand with a neck holder should work, specially with my simple modification below. There might even be a stand where this mod is not needed.

The only modification I did to my stand was to add a double elastic band with two toggles at the end (normally used to hold a gathered up sail) that is fixed to the mic stand rod by a simple knot around it and closes around the neck.
I can put the EUB in the stand without it for short times or when I’m still on stage or close the band (with added security by short tube around the two elastic band that can be moved towards the toggle that holds the other one) when I think that added security is needed.

Thanks, Double MIDI, your description is very detailed but still difficult to imagine what the stand with your modification looks like, how it functions. A photo would help if you can manage one.

I was tired yesterday night and too lazy to make photo.
I took out my EUB (thanks to remind me to charge the impedance buffer battery that way) and make a few photos, so you can understand better.

The Harley Benton DB02 has a tendency to rotate even when using the body support that came with it. I found a workable fix. The bottom part of a cheap 3-piece guitar stand forms a little tripod with a hollow center shaft. The DB02 endpin fits right into that shaft. Lean the bass back on the 2 longer legs of the tripod and it won't rotate. NOTE OF CAUTION: The endpin has to be tightened firmly into the shaft using the tripod's set screw. This will put a scratch in the endpin that will only get worse with re-use. I think I will eventually figure out a fix for that.

I just got my DB02 last month.
Hi Wmelander, did you get it from Thomannmusic? Have you made any changes or modifications? I'm a total novice at upright but to me the action seems higher than needed at the nut. I'm not real happy with the strings either. I don't know what to replace them with. I guess for the price, the DB02 was still a great deal but I can see some expenses ahead.

Yes, I ordered it and two K&M stands from Thomann. So far I have only lowered the bridge to a string height of ~6-7mm at the octave, the thickness of a wooden pencil. The height at the nut seems fine on mine, ~0.5mm. I use Pirastro Flexocor Delux strings on my "good"bass, and original Flexocors on my "rain"bass. They are much easier to bow well than the stock strings on the DB02, but the pizz sound on the stock strings is good enough for gigging with the band. I will try the Flexocor Delux on the DB02 next time I change strings on the good bass, at $293/set it won't be soon, but I might have an old set in the attic. Played upright since 1969, electric since 1980, 5 string since 2022 and EUB since February. The body support is less annoying now that I have worked with it for a month. For me bringing the nut down to eyebrow height and leaning the bass towards my head helped.

I have the HB DB02

Just a basic stand for home, I have it in an Ingles bass stand. Not for really for playing-in. These Ingles stands are ubiquitous for sale used on FB marketplace like $40. They’re too light IMHO for an embodied double bass.

I just set (not attached) a segment of 1x3” trim t words the front in the lower bout arms, which are down very low. The end pin (sometimes extended or not) sits on the board, which puts the weight on the board, on the arms, and low and forward in terms of center of gravity. Better balance than if the pin is on the floor. The neck cradle adjusted to be just above the heel when pin is extended, below the headstock when pin in. Jenky? but works for me in the shed.

If I wanted a bit more stability, I could use a heavier piece of wood notched to set on the arms, maybe attach, maybe drill a hole for the end pin. If I did more playing out on the EUB, I’d do the drum hardware tripod thing, attached to the bass.

White felt was just to dampen sound.

For any who care, heel-neck feels closer to D than Eb. Upper bout is weird for thumb position. But for the price point, it works for me.

I just got my DB02 last month. Here is what I used on stage last week, a K&M 14160, with a modified Gator uke/mando hanger clamped on. I like the OP's stand solution too. I am looking at a 10mm titanium cello end pin to replace the stock carbon fiber unit.View attachment 4992458
Hi. Have you changed the screw-in body rest? It looks like you've straightened the arms so it sits differently on your body.
