Harmonic Issues

I have recently been experimenting alot with playing harmonics and was wondering if the type of strings and bass guitar used were vital in doing so properly. I play a MusicMan HH Stingray with Ernie Ball regular slinky strings and im finding that when I play harmonic notes they dont really ring out and they are not very loud at all. It could perhaps be my technique or inexperience but I wanted to see what some other people had to say. I have also recently adjusted my truss rod for better and lower action but it didnt seem to help very much.
