Hartke 410XL vs GK 410MBE

Hi

I think this is a little bit of a tough question, but does anyone know the differences between a Hartke 410XL and a GK 410MBE?
A friend has the hartke and would like to buy the GK (due to the weight).

Looking at the manuals for each, I got this:

GK 410MBE:
- Weight: 50 lbs.
- Sensitivity: 103dB
- Frequency response: 51Hz to 18kHz
- 8 Ohms - 800W

Hartke 410XL:
- Weight: 88 lbs
- SPL: 98dB @ 1W/1M
- Frequency response: 30Hz - 5kHz
- 8 Ohms - 400W

I think the 410MBE is sealed and the 410XL is front ported.
Any opinions on the different tone/volume?

In bold the G-K will give you more sound per watt input. In italic I know from experience G-K's frequency response listing is the usable cab response, IIRC Hartke lists the -10db point (severely reduced output at -10db).
That said the Hartke should sound more like "old school" and require more power input for sound output. The G-K more neutral (or even) sounding cab that will have more sound output per watt input. You may want to turn the horn off on the MBE if you want more "old school" flavor.
The MBE is listed as a front ported cab.

I saw that, however I'm sure I saw someone on talkbass say that it's sealed. The pics on the GK site make it look sealed.

Can someone who own one confirm for me?

If you're looking for a "sealed" cab - go with the GK 410SBX cab. You can find these used in the $250-$300 range. I know because I own 2 of these - great cabs!

Unfortunately we aren't very spoilt for choice here in South Africa, and the second-hand market isn't very big.

I had a look at sensitivity (I've never looked into this before). This is very helpful and gives us an idea of what to expect with the two cabs.

Why do you say that the Hartke will sound more "old school"? Is this because of the frequency response?

GK website, all other websites, and members here list the weight of the 410MBE as 41lbs, not 50lbs.

You're kinda wrong here, GK website list the 410MBE as 41lbs *and* 50lbs.
