Hartke HD150 volume problem

Why would you want to modify something when there's no idea what he actually did to the circuit? What is it supposed to do, and how is it supposed to work? Just blindly changing things usually ends poorly.

@agedhorse thats why I asked him to explain his mod so I could try it out. Simple. No need for any fuss. If he can provide a bit more detail then I can try the mod. People are permitted to mod their stuff, there is thankfully no law against it. If this limiter is causing people problems it would be great if Hartke Samson themselves would put out details on how to mod it. Considering the op's mod it looks to be very simple, something like breaking a pcb link and bridging with a resistor. Based on your job title you probably know exactly how this kind of mod works and it would be very helpful and decent of you if you could explain how this kind of thing is likely to work. I feel that sharing helpful knowledge would be in the true spirit of a bass forum.

Most of the "mods" I see are the root cause of problems that amps are sent in for. Especially mods made by folks who don't understand how the original circuit even works. If you don't know how the circuit is supposed to work, how do you expect to improve it?

I do not know how the mod works, nor can I comment on such things with regard to another manufacturer's product. IME, the most "helpful and decent" thing I can do is discourage folks from screwing with things that they do not understand, perhaps avoiding an expensive repair. This is in fact in the true spirit of a bass forum.

Well if theres no circuit diagram then Ill just figure it out from the board cause I got one of those amps. Its an LM13700 circuit and I believe those are used for compressors. It cant take too much to figure out the Hartke circuitry and see what breaking that link and putting in the resistor fits into the circuit.

Hi @LASLO can you please explain how to make this change. Do I remove something or do I solder a resistor onto the board? what does the red cross mean? Do you have a circuit diagram you can share? Thank you.

Agedhorse is trying to save you from creating a bigger issue by you not knowing how the circuit actually works and how the mods affects what is happening. I agree with him because I have repaired stuff that people had modded due to what they had seen or heard. I had to go back and put the circuit back into it's original state (If it wasn't too damaged) to see what was actually going on. Most of the time it was the Mod that create another issue/s. On top of that, there would be torn up traces and other messes to clean up due tonthe person not knowing how to solder/desolder correctly. Sometimes the damage was so bad, unit wasn't worth the time or money to repair.

I understand you want to do this mod and least know what you are doing. For example if you are having to ask what the RED X is for, then you are showing you don't understand what you are seeing or reading. This a good example of leaving it to the Hartke Tech to do any repairs or mods. I'm just trying to help you with good advice and not being mean so you don't run into a bigger problem. If you think you can handle it, then good luck with the mod or repair cause bottom line it's you amp and you are free to do what you want as long as you don't try to sell it down the road without disclosing this, I'm sure there are laws that prohibit this.

I'm sorry, I didn't get what you meant.
The issue happens with the volume knob at 3. I've played a marshall mb4210 (which is around the same price) and some crappy low end peaveys, and never experienced something like this
Is it really asking a $400 amp to keep a steady volume and tone that much?
Oh but you said it correctly . When you play in a steady groove, there is no problem. But when you dig in or slap or pop anything , something will limit that impact in the electronics at that split second , robbing you of that moment. And at $400 Hartke is patting themselves on the back. But the question is , How do you feel about being robbed of that note???
