I was wondering if anyone out there with one of these amps has noticed that the rear large center fan is blowing in. There is a filter on the front but if the fan is blowing IN the back then nothing is going into the filter from the front. Is your amp setup the same way?, the two side fans on the power amps are blowing out. I use it at 7-8 on the volume and just want to keep it really cool, thanks!

Hartke LH1000 air flow

I play a lh500 have had no probs, I saw a picture of the 1000 with the lid of it off, there is a 500 watt power section on the extreme left and right side of the case amd both have fans mounted at the front... would make since that the two fans are blowing inward hence the air filter
Funny, just yesterday I had to remove the top from my LH 1000 in order to spray Deoxit on the tube and knobs. While doing so I noticed that the inside is very similar to a computers motherboard. I've never noticed that the fan blows in, but now that you mention it, it makes sense... keeping the electronics cool. Another thing I noticed while looking at the guts was that it was actually rather clean inside... little if any dust at all.
On another note... I'm surprised that you have your volume set to 7 - 8. I've never had to turn mine up over 5 and I normally keep it at around 3. I'm curious as to where your bass, mid, and treble are set, because for all intents and purposes they function as volumes for each setting. Anyway, it seems to be a pretty solid amp and I doubt that you'll encounter any problems. I've had mine 2 - 3 years

I have my settings on 5-5-5, which in the manual is mid's scooped, whatever hartke thinks sounds good i think they say, so its not flat, but its "factory" eq settings you could say, i have it up so high because im using it bridged at 4ohms into an Avatar B410 2000w cab, its an early one with the eminence kappa pro 500w drivers in it. you can hear the speakers come alive right at 7 on the volume with those settings. I haven't had any issues since i got it, but i bought it with the input jacks slightly broken from the preamp board, so i did a resolder of them with nice solder and its been 100% ever since, got it for a steal too
it was wired that way from the factory im guessing...what i did was switched the main rear fan around so it blows out the rear, as do the ones on the power amp blocks on the left and right sides, so now the air flow is being drawn into the filter on the front and out the back by all 3 fans, like a pc case i figured, it seemed backwards to me, now the filter is doing its job
I do not mean to be a mr. Knowitall since I do not have that certain unit yet but was eyeing on it. As per the photo and common sense I think the rear fan should be blowing air out to the back.
ok i had to do a test. i bought mine brand spanking new and haven't messed with it except as mentioned to deox the tube and knobs... the fan is blowing inside the unit. if i were you i wouldn't mess with it because as i suspect, it is for cooling the motherboard just like as if it were a computer.
But computers keep cool by having negative pressure inside the case, having all the fans blowing out and the intake being the filter on the front makes it cooler than the air outside, and keeps the unit clean since the intake is the filter, instead of the rear of the case. just my theory
I agree. However, (and I don't mean no harm or to offend) I'm sure the folks at Hartke knew what they were doing when they designed it. It's your amp and you can do what you want with it, but I'd be cautious about tweaking with the design.
Here's a suggestion... Call the folks at Hartke and get the scoop on the fan blowing in or out. It's a really sweet amp and I wouldn't mess with it... just saying.
Also, like I mentioned when I opened the case, unlike a computer, it was dust free! I have to use compressed air on my computer periodically to remove the dust
