Hartke LH1000 + Eden 410XLT, thoughts?

Hi All,

First post here but I've been lurking for a while. I'm looking to upgrade to my first proper rig. I've been using a 100w Fender Rumble for a while now and it just isn't cutting it for volume in my current band. I need way more headroom and tone.

From snooping around here and reading people's posts I've been thinking about getting the LH1000 and a 410XLT or XST at 8 ohms so I can grab a second when it's needed. I've found a few of the eden cabs for sale used semi-locally (hour or two drive away), unfortunately I don't have a car. Also, I have no idea where to go to try out the Hartke amp. I live in Kingston, Ontario and I'm having a hell of a time finding any music stores nearby (again, hour or two drive away) that carry Hartke. I guess my question is twofold: if anyone knows where in Ontario you can find Hartke and/or Eden gear to try, I would love to know. If not, can anyone comment on how this setup might sound?

I play sort of heavy psychedelic jammy music, we're influenced by The Grateful Dead, Tool, Can, Jefferson Airplane, to name a few. I play a DeArmond Starfire with Dark Star pickups. The reason I was leaning towards the Hartke is because I've read that it sounds like an Alembic pre- through an old Fender amp, which is what Phil Lesh used for a while, without breaking the bank. I got the impression that the Eden cabs were good transparent cabs, i.e. they don't change the natural sound of the amp and bass and I love the sound of my bass. Can anyone confirm that these are what I'm looking for or possibly recommend other amps or cabs worth checking out to find what I'm after?

Sorry for the long post, I just really want to figure this out and my options for trying things out are quite limited at the moment. Thanks all.

Do some more research - the Eden 410 XLT is a midrange focused cabinet. It truly has it's own monstrous tone and is not very transparent at all. If you want something more transparent, not sure what to tell you.

The Hartke head has a decently warm tube sound - Bass and Treble at 2 and Mids at 10 for a flat tone. Not very versatile, but it sounds good and delivers the volume through a good cabinet.

What other gear can you find in your area?

Thanks for the responses. I was interested in the Hartke cabs but I read that the aluminum cones had a bit of an aggressive edge to them. Hard to say whether that is a problem or not without hearing it though.

Regarding the Eden cabs, I think I may have gotten the XLT and XST confused. It sounds like the response is a lot flatter on the XST. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find the XST listed locally, only the XLT.

I found a music store near Ottawa (1.5 or 2 hour drive away) that carries Hartke and a few other brands (not Eden, alas). I'm going to try to make it up there to try some stuff out. You can only really figure so much out by reading things online. I've been doing a fair bit of research but I figured asking might be a good way to get pointed in the right direction. Admittedly, trying to find the right gear is a bit dizzying, there's a lot of stuff out there.

The Eden cabs are reliable well-made pro-level stuff. In fact, last I saw, Phil Lesh uses a n Eden amp in his current stack, presumably for the preamp. You won't go wrong wtih it.

I have a Traynor YBA 200-2 and I was using 2 Fender Rumble NEO 1x12 8 OHM cabs. (Eminence Deltalite 11`s). I found that open E string on my USA Precision made the speakers at times blat. I traded the the 2 Fender Rumbles for a Eden 410 XST 8 ohm cab and the difference was really something. Open E string now has some B*LLS and is much deeper than the two 1x12 cabs and alot more efficient too.

i've not been trying out a lot of amps but so far, only Edens and Ampegs have left a deep impression, so i'll go for the Eden

The Hartke HyDrive cabs are hybrid aluminum and paper, and in my opinion give the best sound available, especially when you turn the tweeter on, and use the LH1000.
