Hartke LH1000 tube change?

Helo everyone,

I have recently purchased a new Hartke LH100 and am concidering a pre-tube change. This subject is very new to me as I have been using solid state power and pre-amps in the past.

Having read as many varying opinions as there may be brands of tube manufacturers, I'm looking for some help.

The arguement I most often see is classic or "vintage" vs modern. What if any is the difference? In all honesty this is a bit confusing to me.

Some good reading,

I tried both the JJ12AX7 and the Tungsol12AX7 in my LH1000. Both of these tubes are current production. The JJ is punchier/hotter. The Tungsol is warmer/rounder. Both are noticeably different from each other, as well as from the stock tube(Sovtek 12AX7WA). In my opinion, both are better sounding than the Sovtek.
