Hartke LH500 vs. Carvin BX500

Close to making a purchase and have narrowed it down to these 2 amps. Was leaning towards the Carvin until I began seeing reviews that the tube preamp in the BX500 was nothing more than a marketing component and made no difference when engaged. What I'm after is more towards a warm, vintage tone with a fat bottom end (Jah Wobble's stuff with Public Image Limited is a good example of the tone I'm after).

Reviews would suggest that LH500 would be a better choice for the sound I want, plus it seems to be a good foundation to begin with for adding preamps to tweet the sound a bit.

So does anyone have experience with these amps that could help me out on this? Have a gig coming up in about 6 weeks and I'd like some time to play around with my rig before then. FYI: the head will be paired with an Avatar 4x10 w/ Celestions (800 watts).

Thanks...
