Hartke LH500

Hey Roundsound, are you playing in a band and having this problem? I find that when I'm practicing on my own a scooped sound is nice, but once I'm playing in a loud band then the mids need to be significantly more prominent to cut thru. BTW my passive basses sound better (more dynamic) than my actives with my LH1000.

At the moment i am not playing regulary in a band. Just jammin' with some friends and recording some of it.

The music i usually play live is music that needs to have a really smooth sound, mostly jazz standards and blues type of stuff.
Used to have nylon coated strings on my p-bass, but i needed i little bit more edge for pop kind of things, so i decided to try half-rounds, and I digg them. We're usually not more than 3-4 people playing so my job is to keep it low and with the drums, not focusing so much on cutting through.

At the moment my p-bass i fairly useless with this amp, sounds really hollow, as mentioned above. Can't seem to produce any of the "classic" p-bass sounds. And now I have to have the tone rolled all the way off, just sounds really crappy and "metallic" when I try putting some tone in there.

I'll see if I can find a youtube video to shed som light on my current sound.

Try 3-8-2 for your Pbass to cut through like a pbass

Atm im using 7-2-2 to get closest to the sound im enjoying. A little bit of tone on the bass and some foam under the strings.

yep. not quite my settings (generally b5-6, t5-6, m7-10, depending on the room and song) but i'd sure go there in a heartbeat. yow, 7-2-2 is super fat. ditto the foam mute, though i'm going w/o at the moment. 2/10/2 and so on sounds Very weird to me with a fender tone stack, but that's just my taste. labella flats on a p-bass. i like fat boom boom but with definition; duck, keith ferguson, early george porter, fred thomas et all. iow tone-wise i like to stay in the bassment, out of the guitar player's way

I am playing a stock MIA 2002 P-Bass through an LH1000 and get the standard Precision tone all day long. My controls actually have the mids at about 11:00AM, bass & treble straight up and that brite switch is on.

Tone knob on the bass is barely open, it gets a bit too bright if I open it up more. (2-LDS 2 x 10 cabs w/GHS Fatties strings)

Hey folks !

I'm now looking for a budget cab. My old Genz-Benz 410 just died...

I want a 410 that can handle lows very well (I play a lakland DJ5) with good mids ans crisp highs.

Do you have some ideas ?

I was thinking about those :

Hartke 410 XL or Ashdown mag 410 ?

Any experience with these cabs and the LH-500 ?

And, at least, the bass sound I'm trying to get with my rig is the Paul Turner's sound on this vid'.



And ok, I know my bass is not an Alleva-Coppolo and I'll never have the same fingers... lol
But, any advice for the settings on the head ?

has anyone ever compared the LH500 to the GK MB2-500? I have the GK MB2-500 but I'm not a "GK" kinda of guy and I want something much warmer sounding. I'm just worried that I might be giving up too much volume going from the GK to the Hartke. (GKs generally sound louder than their output wattage RMS ratings). Any advice is greatly appreciated.

We had a local GTG today and we plugged in four (4) Bag End S15-D's into the LH1000. All I can say is holy crap Batman!!! It sounded huge and clear. Absolutely killer.

I'm borrowing the LH1000 to try it out a little more. Besides, the 2 ohm capability of the LH1000, what else should I think about in choosing this head over the LH500?
