Harvesting Time - What are you growing?

We have always had great luck with cherry tomatoes. This year is no different. What's different is jalapeno peppers. We have a zillion of them. Last year, we got about ten from six plants. We planted six plants again this year and it looks like we will be getting a dozen or more from each plant. They haven't started ripening to red yet, which means we may have to harvest them before they ripen all the way. If you have ever had a fresh jalapeno that was fully ripe, you know why we hope they will ripen before the weather turns and we have to harvest and be done with it.

Potatoes are another surprise crop this year. A couple years ago, we had a potato sprout, so we cut it up and planted it. We got a few potatoes, and I apparently missed digging up a few more. We got a bumper crop this year. We are leaving them in the ground for now, but I suppose we will start digging them soon. We dug them for Thanksgiving last year, and they were great. This year, they appear to be a whole lot bigger. I don't know why, but nobody's complaining about that.

Thanks to some Scotch Bonnet seeds from j-raj we made two types of pepper jelly and four sauces. Some hot, some really hot!

I grew these grafted "ketchup and fries" plants - tomatoes on top, potatoes on bottom, but the chipmunks got all of the tomatoes and broke all the tops - that and the drought pretty much killed them off. I guess it's time to find out if any of the potatoes are actually usable, haven't looked yet.
