Cool! Where did you see them? I caught them at the Montreal Forum. I remember they played Kashmir.
Yet more proof I was born into the wrong generation. It really stinks to know I missed out on the best generation of music in history. I have played in bands with folks who saw, Zep, The Who, Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead, Hendrix, Joplin, Miles Davis. All of which were in their prime at the time.
It kinda makes me angry to hear them tell their stories. But I'm glad for them.
Well, since you mention it, between 1967 and '69 I saw the Yardbirds, Traffic, The Who, and Janis Joplin. Also, the Jeff Beck Group with Rod Stewart singing and Ron Wood on bass.
But the Yardbirds was the first "real" rock concert I ever saw, and it changed the way I thought about music forever. It was in a fairly small club in Cleveland, so everybody was standing pressed up to the stage. I was about 10 feet back. Page was definitely the main attraction--all the old Yardbird's hits were the vehicle for Page to go off on long improvised solos--playing with a violin bow, or the mic stand, or whatever. And the backbends--he would do a backbend until his hair was dragging on the floor behind him--I bet he can't do that any more!

That takes me back... Back in the day I got to see Paul Revere and the Raiders, Herman's Hermits, Buffalo Springfield, The James Gang, Strawberry Alarm Clock, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Rhinoceros, Savoy Brown, Wishbone Ash (the Argus tour), the Allman Bros. (with Duane and Barry), Pink Floyd (the Ummagumma tour), It's A Beautiful Day, Aum, The Amboy Dukes, Blue Oyster Cult (their cherry tour), The Doors (their very last show and to this day the worst concert I ever attended - I witnessed the band's breakup on stage), Jethro Tull, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Soul Survivors, Jefferson Starship, The Grateful Dead, Traffic, Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, Bob Seger, Kansas, Edgar Winters' White Trash, AC/DC, Ultravox, Fleetwood Mac (I was there at the fake Fleetwood Mac show in New Orleans, and I saw the real band later), Led Zepplin (Houses of the Holy tour), The Who, Captain Beyond, Frank Zappa, Black Sabbath, the Atlanta Rhythm Section... and many others.
Man, the 60's and 70's were a great time to see live music!
I saw Led Zep at the Ottawa Civic Center in April 1970. I remember that the III album had not been released yet but they played "Since I've Been Lovin' You"! Quite a trip!
