Has anybody ordered a darkstar recently?

EDIT: Gave Mr. Hammon a ring, and he was awesome. Nothing wrong with my Dar Star (thank goodness) AND he's providing a new black chrome surround! (the original process wore off after a year or so). So, +1 to the telephone and +2 to Fred Hammon. DS4L!
Has anyone talked to Fred in the last week or so. Aparently his voicemail box is full. I'm considering jumping ship on the whole DS idea and going with a Lace Alumatone instead. It's been over 2 months and I haven't heard a thing.
Are they really that different? It seems like both pickups are after the same goal, a high output pickup with an even frequency response. I also read that the original goal of the chi-sonic was to make a replacement for the Dark Star but then abandoned the idea and went with neodymium magnets for a different freq response.

All pickups will sound different even with as wide/even response as you can get in them. The aperture and inductance are different between the two, and I'm sure the resonant peak is probably different as well. That's not to say you wont like both of them, but there will be some difference in character.
If al pickups sounded the same, we would only need one pickup.
