Has Quilted Maple Top become un-cool ??

There's really only one way to determine this.
Give me five basses that have QMTs and I'll tell you if they're un-cool..

I really like figured Maple tops of any sort.
A lot of the quilt tops on cheap basses (if not all) are just laminates or very very thin pieces. So it's not that they're not cool, it's just a way to try and spice up the lower level instruments. Most times you can easily tell the difference between a quilt or flame top on a cheap bass from one on an expensive bass.

If my quilt sounded like crap I wouldn't play it. It's just a bonus that it has a sick top and sounds killer.

This makes me wet... Wow. Beautiful in my eyes.
My Tobias Bassic was quilted maple, and it was freakin' beautiful. Sounded great, too.
In the 90's I got a little burned out on all the quilt and pseudo-quilt tops, but still, a good quilted maple bass is a thing of beauty.
you know it's all personal opinion on what you like. I like the translucent colors on basses so you can see the wood grains I also like the flamed or quilted looks also I have basses with all the above mentioned and also solid color basses. but they all play great and sound great. if not then the electronis start getting worked over so they will play great. by the way love the look of the purple Modulus it's killer.
You got this wrong. I always tell the kid, "Here. Gimmee that Stupid Fender and take this SX and you'll learn what playing a "real" bass is all about!"
As for a Rumble 15 at a 10,000 person venue, I suppose it depends on whether the kid brought a DI or not...
My first high-end bass was a Lakland 55-94 with a quilted top. I also have a Fender American Jazz Deluxe FMT V with a quilted top (it's an early one when the F stood for "figured"). Nowadays, I don't GAS for quilt, but I still like the coffee table look of other exotic tops.
Furniture basses are passe. They've been replaced by something more real, more down to earth - the factory distressed "road worn" look.
Uncool? Depends on the bass to me, yes it has been copied a lot lately.

beauty isin the eye of the beholder, but QMT was never my cup of tea. For me it was always "too much". I do like a flamed maple neck, but that's not the in-your-face-look. I do like to see the wood structrue through a 3 color burst - but for me a nice ash grain is enough.
I hope it isn't uncool. I have a Deep Dragonburst Quilt Carvin SB5000 on the brown truck being delivered today.
