Has Randall Smith retired from Mesa?

I googled and am seeing "fired" being slung around like Mr. Smith was a Dominos employee.

My personal experience with very good friends high up in executive positions, and being acquired by a big company is this: When the company is acquired the existing leadership is usually required to stay onboard for a period of time...1 year, 2 years.

In that 1 or 2 years there may be friction. Or there may not be. But the founder/leader may decide to cash out/leave when the option is available in the contract. So based on a twitter post that says "employees don't believe it for a second"...employees are probably not privy to the entire contractual story and in any case, at that level, "fired" is a very naive simplistic reductive term

Most likely, he had friction, contract is up, he's gonna go to Cabo and think about if he wants to build another shop over some beers. Stay tuned for "RSD".
In UK speak “deemed redundant “

I bet that Randall agreed to stay for a period of time when he sold the company to Gibson. I also believe that Gibson probably got rid of him simply to save money.

He probably has a non-compete clause that would prevent him from starting another brand. If not, he could launch another company that would probably be instantly successful.

So, would that mean this the beginning of Gibson's destruction of Mesa? Start using lower grade components and send manufacturing to China? I hope not.
Gibson is not Fender! Lol

Mesa has value just as it is. Diluting the brand name, and moving overseas would lose a lot on many fronts.

Made in America / brand loyalty
Cost and design overhead
Engineering and market savvy that exists here.

Gallien Kruegar moved manufacturing BACK to the US because of QC issues for some products.

I bought a 100W 12” Boogie combo with wicker grill and hardwood cabinet (Mk II model) back in the 70’s when it was required to get on a waiting list, and I had to wait 9 months for it. Then I later switched over to bass, so I ended up selling the Boogie to a buddy of mine who still has it.

I wish all the best to Mr. Smith.
