Has this happened to you?

Today I was putting a new set of Labella Low Tension Flats on my P bass. I started with the E string and when I applied some pressure to bend it at the witness point, it broke. That's never happened to me in the dozens of times I've done it before. These are expensive strings so I am even more surprised. Is this my fault or a faulty string?

I found this warning fairly deep into labella's website:

"Do not use standard flat wound bass sets on basses that require stringing
through the body of the bass (or else they will break). We have Through-Body
"-TB" models for those basses e.g. 760FL-TB, 760FS-TB, etc."

I think something like this on their packaging would be helpful.

I broke an LTF E by being an idiot and trying to put it in a cello (seemed like a good idea at the time)... there is a warning about over-bending LTF strings out of the silk areas so I guess they aren't as tough as some strings. I use very light pressure if I feel the need to set the witness points. It may well be that just a little too much pressure will result in a break.

That's actually the secret to LaBella's "low-tension" aspect claim... when the string breaks... it releases all the tension. You can't get any lower than that!

I just went thru this whole thing with them over a set of the Deep Talkin Flats. I broke the E also.
If you email them they will probably sell you the right string that broke in string thru body version.
I ended up getting two sets of the DTF's string thru body. One for my String Thru Precision and one for my String Thru Jazz. They seem magical and ring so true.

Great strings, but I have to agree the warning about string-through should be more prominent.
I almost made the same mistake, but luckily read threads on here warning about this before I bought.

Wow no wonder I had such a hard time getting EB cobalt flats on my Ampro2 P bass! After a struggle they did seat right and tune correctly and sound killer now.

I like string through. If I ever break a string while installing I would find another brand.
