Has your arm ever went numb while playing?

For the record, it's my left arm too!
I can't even reach out far enough to tune the G string on my Jazz anymore.

I'm not looking forward to being cut open, but I can't put it off any longer. I think that my problem is that I injured my neck sometime in the past (probably in a race car) and then the effects of time have taken their toll.

HolowBassman: Go to a nuerologist, They will be able to tell you whats going on. Don't put it off, there a few options before surgery. It's really more common that you think.

This happens to me a lot lately. I got laid up in a bad accident years ago - left arm snapped off the shoulder joint. I've got about 75% use of my arm. Now, I find that my arm/hand goes numb a lot. I'm working with different straps and positioning, but have a feeling that I have more serious issues starting. Life and age suck.

No offence to those posting who have suffered greatly, as horrific as your personal stories are, it's a big stretch to suggest the same diagnosis applies here.

To the OP - the advisable course of action is to consult a trusted family doctor, and/or should you feel comfortable with the suggestion, seek a consultation with a trusted and respected chiropractor. For this type of concern, a chiropractor would be my first suggestion as they are most qualified to assess the cause, the severity of the damage, and either treat or refer to the proper professional as needed. To be more specific since I don't know who in your area is best qualified look for a doctor with the DACNB credentials in their listing - those guys are extremely dedicated professionals. Stretch your back/shoulder blades before and after playing. Get a thicker strap. Raise the neck slightly while playing. Don't hunch.
