Hate the new SX headstock?

+1

I choose to not buy them. It's more of a protest thing for me. I mean look at the guitars. Some are by "customer request". Well, aren't we customers? Why can't the bass players have a say in what gets offered, especially after we were solicited for ideas?

Kurt gets some input in the US versions as Team Intl only allows one distributer per country. He tells them what will and won't sell and Team sends what he tells them to. If there needs to be an adjustment made (i.e. the headstocks, pickup combinations, etc...), he makes suggestions and Team will comply (for the most part).

I am not here to say they are bad instruments, I'm not here to tell you Kurt is a bad guy, I am just dissapointed I guess.

To be honest, and no disrespect meant, but that seems like an overreaction to me.

Honestly, I can't see the difference. Am I missing something? Both these headstocks look the same to me:

One is an SX, the other is a Fender. From where I stand they look the same.

If you like SX basses, buy one and deal with it.
Maybe it's because Im late to the SX phenom and I have no investment in the old style headstock, but the headstock shape seems a really minor nit-pick issue to me.

For me, it's like going to Taco Bell, they ask what you want, and you ask for a taco without meat. They know what you want and you know what you want. Then you get it and it's got meat all over it. But in the case with Rondo, I can't ask for them to make it again. :hmm:

In my earlier post, I was just saying that I'd rather get something else at that price point. Something I like looking at as much as I like playing. Let's face it, you wouldn't play a bass that doesn't appeal to you aesthetically and neither will I.

The thread is called "Hate the new SX headstock?" You have to expect some negativity. Maybe there are those that love the new headstock shape. I beleive there are more people out there that don't. Hence, this thread. :hiding:

Any more questions for me, just send a pm. I'll just leave this thread at that. I still didn't see where it was a legal thing though.

My $0.02, IMO, IME, YMMV.

What good is a taco with no meat? Then again what good is a taco from Taco Bell anyway? :hiding:

Not to cause trouble (Ok maybe a little) here is my take on the headstock issue. A lot of guys bought SX basses because they did not want to spend the money on a real Fender but wanted the look. Now that they can't they are pissed, but you know you can't have everything.

Personally, I like the Lakland-shaped headstock best, but I think the newest headstock is a HUGE improvement over the giant one on my SX (it looks like the ocean if you turn it upside down.) I love the bass regardless... and I am not going to take out the saw and mess with a bass that sounds that good just for aesthetics. :)

(yup, that's my foot!)

I think the new headstocks suit a more modern body shape and modern small style tuners more than the classic body shape and tuners.

Lets face it, many people buy SX because they are the best cheap instrument that looked like Fenders, despite the fact that they may well be the best cheap instrument period.

i just got an sx with the new headstock and it really doesn't look that bad.

people don't like the new headstocks because someone may realize they aren't playing a fender and are actually playing a "budget" bass!

I have the old headstock instrument. (Who is now heavily modified) That said, the new headstock didn't stop me from picking one up.

It was a great bass and I think the neck was actually better than my old headstock SX. I eventually ended up giving the new style SX to my friend who needed a bass.

I had no problems with it... I actually really liked it.

I would buy another one again if needed also.
