Have You Ever Experienced A Panic Attack?

Lately, I've been going through a lot of depression and anxiety, but when I get on TB and other people are able to relate to my experiences and support me, it feels good and I feel much better.

Well basically, I have never had a panic attack, but on Thursday I experienced my first one. Let me tell you, I thought I was dying because I began to hyperventilate, my heart was going crazy, and my right leg and arm were going numb and starting to tingle. So I called 911 and the EMT came and told me I was probably experiencing a panic attack, but to be on the safe side I had my mother take me to the hospital. I've been worrying about my kidneys for awhile because about 3 months ago I was told they were inflamed and was having back problems and abdominal issues, but the doctor just told me to take some ibuprofen and drink lots of water (which I did, but I still was experiencing the same issues). Well on Thursday, which was my 2nd visit, the doctor told me that I was completely fine, but that some people who have panic attacks could experience rhythmic issues with their heart which might have happened to me. So he said the next time it happens I should count my pulse for a minute and make sure it isn't anything over 150 bpm. I was also off my anti-depressants that entire week which could've played a role, but that seriously scared me. I thought I was going to die that day and was crying because I was so scared. All my life I've been depressed, but Thursday I just realized how thankful I am to live and after seeing all the older people in that hospital (I even saw some young boy who overdosed on Xanax and popped a blood vessel), I just couldn't help but thank God for everything he's done for me! So I started to pray more, especially for all those out in the world struggling in life.

I just wanted to share my story, but also ask if any of you have been through a situation similar to mine?

Thanks so much for reading and I hope that anyone who is struggling with depression, anxiety, anything health related, or just basically whatever it is, that your not alone and please don't ever give up!
Love you guys and God Bless!

Yes....one time I was Scuba diving....and to cut a long story short I got into a situation where I experienced sheer panic.....took everything I had to keep from going flat-out loony ballistic.....

An experience I hope will never be repeated......

All the best to you, Deoindra, enjoy reading all your posts...you are one of the brighter lights here on TB.......:thumbsup::thumbsup:

First of all, I'm glad you're feeling better. I used to get panic (Anxiety) attacks quite a lot during my teens and part of my 20's. Mostly would get really bad migraine headaches. I made a conscious decision to try and relax and be patient about things! Distract myself by involving myself in activities to keep my mind occupied and away from the root cause. It has worked for me. I'm sorry you are going through the things you're going through that are causing your depression and I pray you move past it and continue to have a great, productive and happy life. Stay positive. Keep on being creative and most of all...communicate your feelings as much as you can.

Thank you so much and I'm sorry you had to go through that because they are really scary. I wish all the best to you as well and everyone else, you may enjoy my threads, but I enjoy your guy's responses and support because they make me feel so good inside. I hope that my posts are able to make people feel better as well because I absolutely, a billion-gazillion times, HATE (and i don't ever use that word towards anything or anybody at all) when people are sad. I know what it's like and I'd rather be sad than see someone else suffering as well.
Thank you so much for your post again though, really made my day friend!

Yes,
When my son died.
I still do when I visit his grave. Not as bad though.
I'm so so so sorry, hope you are doing so much better now and just know he's in a MUCH BETTER place than down here where people are getting shot because of the color of their skin or fighting and killing each other for the most ridiculous reasons.
Remember though, If you ever want to talk just inbox me because I always feel better when i'm able to talk to a friend!
God Bless!

Thank you so much Dave and I am so glad you were able to overcome your obstacles!
I will definitely take your advice and talk to people more about my feelings because I feel so much better when I do, that's why i go on here sometimes to let some of my feelings out.
Thank you again for being such a good friend, glad that I met you and everyone else as well! ;)

Thanks, It's been thirteen years now. The pain numbs after a while but never goes away.

Liking this felt inappropriate, but I feel you hdacer. I get a hollow feeling in my chest when I visit my brother and daughter ( they are buried next to each other ).

Funk$tar, without knowing much more than you have supplied I would highly encourage you to seek ways to come off of the anti-depressant.

In my line of work I have been around them for 20+ years now. I wont pass medical advice except to say that in my personal experience, diet, exercise and having a predetermined action plan to assist with known stress triggers can work wonders. I use these principles with my folks to great effect. There is a ton online, please read about anti depressants. I think you may be surprised. Know that the support group here is pulling for you :)

Not disagreeing, but if an individual has been on antidepressants for a long time and suddenly stops taking them cold turkey, as seems to be the case here, bad things can happen. Speaking from personal experience. You gots to have a plan including tapering off the meds in a controlled way, and the other reinforcement things mentioned.

Absolutely true. Coming off of any long term med should be approached with care. I do think, however starting such meds should be met with equal or even greater care. I also think, in the case of these types of drugs, an alternative to meds could be beneficial and even more conducive to long term health ( both mental and physical ).

There is a lot of great information out there. My main gist was to suggest a person to become informed. To know what is going into their body and understand what it is doing to their body. Not all drugs are created equal and some have a rather dubious history ( I'm not wanting to be an alarmist, but there are few other ways to accurately state it. )

Funkstar, try not to worry. Some of the replies here can be panic inducing without stopping meds cold turkey! That said, get some sleep, talk to someone if you need to, and most importantly follow up with your doctor on Monday. It's not the end of the world and you'll laugh it off later. Best of luck to you.
Thanks man, that's exactly what I plan on doing!
Best of luck to you as well!

Yes...i experienced triggers and panic attacks during certain situations....first for a period following a serious motor vehicle injury and period of depression.
The most recent following a 20 year marriage breakup...grieving and depression.
Still can get triggered in certain environments . but panic attacks are rare now....and am off the anti depressants

Lorazepam helps at times
