I'd hate to rain on your parade but Ritter has been around for years. Just not talked about much on here since very few can afford them.

PS - the shape isn't very appealing to a lot of people either

Wow...That proves that we have some really lucky folks. How do they sound? I swear, if they sound half as good as they look, what more could you want? I'd be afraid to scratch it if I had one. I guess it wasn't meant for me to own one:crying:. Oh well, I can still dream. I LOVE the body shape. I also like the basses made by Simmons guitars. I like the Echo body shape. I could probably buy one of those one day:hyper:. They are a LOT less than the Ritters.

Yeah, Alembics are sure fine also. I have been out of touch for a while as to playing bass, but I am back in the game. I started looking at what's out there, and whew, I was amazed. I can't imagine playing a six stringer, although there are some fantastic players that do. I have small hands, so a five string would most likely be my max. I am so glad I found this forum. I have seen some EXCELLENT responses from its members. You guys are TOPS!!! Love the pictures. Now, if I could only build me one of them fine Ritter critters....Hmmm....

Funny thing about Ritters - back in 2001 I almost bought what was one of 4 or 5 ritters in the country for....$1,700!!! I was bass shopping at Gguitars in CT and almost bought the Ritter but got a Smith instead...if I had gotten the ritter and held on to it.....hmmmmm

Man, I can't stay off the Ritter web site! I am addicted to the look of those basses. I found what might be a close second (Since I don't have $8,000.00 to throw out yet!) and it is made by Simmons. I love the Echo style. I don't know why....It just appeals to me. I MAY:hyper: be able to get one of those. They are around $1,900.00 or so, depending on the options. I had best keep my tail off the web for a while...this fever is killing me! My wife, bless her, thought the Ritter's were beautiful....Hey, maybe I could buy HER a Ritter and give her free lessons!:bassist:!! Hmm, I gotta get back on the web...see you folks later....

Well, I called Simmons Bass guitars and talked with the builder/owner Mr. Simmons. I can buy an Echo for a LOT less and I really love the body style a lot. I don't know how well they are made or sound, but he (Simmons) offers a ten day trial with a no questions asked return policy. I am gonna give it a shot because its the closest thing to the shape I want (strange taste to some, I'm sure) and if sounds as good as it looks, it should be perfect for me. Do you folks know anything about them? I am unfamiliar with the Bartolini pickups. Do they sound good in other basses?

Not sure if you all are familiar with Rob Derhak, but he is the bass player from the band called moe.. He playes a beautiful ritter bass on. I has had it for years, but for some reason for about 5-6 years he put it away to play on a high end Ibanez. Anyway, it is back as his main bass and it sounds like the perfect bass. Of course, Rob has a great tone on any bass that he picks up. I think he has lead fingers. When they do a switch up with other people the other bass player always sounds like he is at half volume from Rob. I'm sure that has nothing to do with his Ritter though. These also look simialr to Les Claypool's basses. Does anybody know if that is what he uses as well?

The designs look okay but the "multi-bolt" system is what they would call a marketing scheme. The amount of metal that replaces the actual wood with that idea would actually degrade the sound of the wood transfer, and also hurt the vibration running through the body because there is more obstruction. No doubt those basses sound good, but that multi-screw thing going on, that's definately a gimmick.
