Having a shielding issue in P bass.

I know for sure it's not a grounding issue. It hums when I am not touching the strings and bridge. When I am playing and touching the bridge the hum goes away. I tinkered with it last night and resoldered some loose connections and even swapped out a few bridges and the hum is still happening. I put copper shielding in the cavities but I may not have put enough in the control cavity. Does anyone have any idea what other solutions I can try?

I dont think so, I put the copper shielding in the pickup cavity and control cavity. The ground wire is sitting under the bridge without any shielding.

Following. And I still think this can be pickup related. I've been doing some P-pickup swapping..just because...and I've noticed that some buzz less than others, and some are dead silent, all in the same bass.

The shielding needs to be grounded or else it's useless.

You can run a wire from each section of shielding to the ground tab on the jack or any other ground point. Screw the wire into the shielding, solder it, tape it on with more tape, etc.

Shielding without grounding isn’t shielding, it is like an antenna that will actually increase noise!
