Having a sound issue

Hello everyone, my name is John this is my first post. I am hoping someone might be able to help me out. I have a Fender Rumble 25 practice amp, an Ibanez GRS200 bass, and I just bought a new Fender instrument cable. I replaced the battery in my bass and yet I am having sound issues. My amp powers up just fine if I play something through the auxiliary input everything is fine. However when I plug in my bass and try to play is will sound distorted like then nothing hit the strings some more it will play fine tjen go out. Kinda of back and forth then if I unplug the bass with the amp on and plug it back in it will work momentarily then start fading out to nothing. I have pulled the amp apart and checked the connections inside everything seems fine. I checked the input plug it's tight and doesn't seem dirty or corroded. The amp is more than a few years old but has barely been used since my old bass developed some serious issues and became basically unable to use. My new bass is a little over a year old that is why I replaced the battery. Due to injuries I haven't been able to play it since I got it. Just bought a brand new Fender instrument cable thinking my other cables which are about 30 years old were the cause of the issue. Unfortunately the issue remains. Any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to start my bass journey all over again, the right way this time. Thanks in advance I can't wait to get to know you all and learn and enjoy music together!

Thanks for the suggestions, I tried my old bass but it's not in the greatest shape had the exact same issue. Unfortunately that's the only other instrument I have. I'll try swapping the battery who knows definitely could have gotten a bad one. I swapped cables but don't have a different amp to try and I'm guessing a repair would about cost the same as a replacement. That sucks about the input jack I thought Ibanez was a better manufacturer than that. Guess I do a little digging on that as well. Thanks everyone for the help I appreciate it.

Any other musicians in your area willing to meet up for a F2F with their gear? As suggested, sub'ing stuff out piece by piece should reveal the true culprit. Apparently, you don't own the redundant systems (...too much gear!) that is the hallmark of a seasoned TBer! Keep us updated.

Edit & afterthought: I have a couple of Soundgears which are 12+ y.o. with original stock barrel jacks (...although angle mounted / recessed). Not sure what they used but both are tighter-than-ticks. It will give the false impression it's fully inserted when, in fact, it needs to be forced an addt'l mm or two to fully engage for solid contact. Just ruling out the dumb stuff.

So I took a shot and bought some contact cleaner. Something it seems it somewhat if a must have from what I have read and heard. I picked up some DetoxIt D5. It arrived today and I sprayed all my pots on me amp as well as the input back on the amp as well as the output on my bass. As of right now it seems that has cured the issue. We will see how the week goes with some more practice this week. Again I appreciate everyone's input and knowledge you all have shared. Hopefully in the future I'll have a few more reliable basses and amps so I can do much easier troubleshooting in the future. As I continue to check out more and more on this forum I look forward to learning and enjoying the awesome world of bass with other bassist who share the bass big! Have a great day everyone and happy thumping!
