Hayman 40/40 bridge specs

Just bought one of these online, its in pretty rough condition, but I think it's mainly aesthetic. The bridge looks iffy though and I'm thinkin I may need to replace it. Does anyone know the measurements for it, or a good bridge replacement for this bass?

I have heard if them, been eyeing a few. They were the in thing for a brief period in the early /mid 70's. Tony Driggins of Brownsville Station used one for a bit. How about some pictures of the beastie?

If the OP is still looking for info on that bridge, he should contact me in a week. I just bought the 40/40 listed here in the TB Classifieds, and should take delivery by next week, for sure. I'd be happy to measure it. I would also be glad to provide pictures, if that's helpful. After decades of owning, riding and restoring British motorcycles, I now will be experiencing the thrill of British Bass ownership! kodiakblair, wish me luck!

Thanks for letting me know but I ended up pulling the trigger on mine without the measurements, the og bridge is working for now. I'm pretty sure the Badass III bridge does fit on it though if you ever want to switch them out. Good luck with the bass man!

Hey eldoryder Congrats on snagging the 4040. It looks fully intact with all the correct pieces. Heck it looks brand new! I had one back in the mid 70s right thru my punk/new wave days and if I'd seen that one in the classifieds I prolly would have grabbed myself lol. Enjoy it.

I thought it was Michael Lutz I know he played a black one. Got it from a music store in ann arbor mich.

rezdog- Thanks! I'm really looking forward to it. Yeah this bass was as "minty" looking as any I have seen. To get that on a bass this rare makes it a double pleasure. I can't wait to dig in to it!
Jadenc- I'm glad you got your bridge sorted out. I'd really be interested in seeing pictures of yours. There's not a lot of these floating around out there. Please PM me if you have a chance to send pics. I'd be glad to do likewise.

On this same subject, do you think there's enough interest to start a "Hayman 40/40" club? I haven't checked but I'm sure it's possible there's already a "Shergold" club. Even so, why not a special club for us?

Sorry for the hold up I've just been busy. I know something is up with the neck because it doesnt have the typical emblem thing, so it's either not original or some kind of one off thing. It plays great for the kind of stuff I do I just gotta intonate it and I dont really trust the tuner I have to do that. I'm probably gonna take it to a tech soon though just to look it over.

It is hard to say, where is the truss rod adjust? these were on the back of the body just below the neck plate. There should be a cover that has the serial #. To my knowledge I dont think they offered rosewood necks just maple. They used leftover necks and other parts from the haymans on the first shergold basses so this could be a replacement neck. Either way they are great basses deep jazz bass tone. I would check the bridge saddles as well they are made of steel and will rust over time, spray some WD40 on the saddles and let it soak in try turning the adjustment screws. Mine were so bad that I had to drill them out and retap the saddles. I noticed that the neck does not have a zero fret, that was standard on those basses.

I have had an extremely rare (40-50 made) model 5050 semi hollow body. I have had it for 30 years and it had always been my favorite and easiest to play bass and I have owned dozens.

Can a 5050 owner be in that club? I've had mine for 30 years or longer and it is the best sounding and easiest to play bass that I have owned and I have had dozens. From my research, these were only made between 1970-73 and only about 40-50 of the 5050 s were made

I say YES! What a great looking model! If you EVER were inclined to sell it, I would be all over that in a heartbeat.

Actually I am embarrassed to admit that although I have played this bass for actually closer to 40 years, it originally belonged to an old Vietnam vet that taught me bass when I was about 14 or 15 and it got passed around until it landed in my guitar players possession and although he only paid $200 for it, I just recently bought it back from him when we reunited and paid a whopping $2000 for it and I was happy to do it, because I have never played a better sounding one and the feel was so easy to play. And I've owned Rick's, p basses, peavy's, guilds, yamahas, and many more.

Don't be ashamed! Think of it as the proto Wal hollow body bass that was never built. I wish I had the opportunity to have tried one out. They are pretty swanky looking and would probably go for around 2Gs or more new now.
