HEAD/CAB not getting along

Hey,
So I recently (tonight) picked up a SVT CL head to use with my Orange 4x10 cab. The head only runs on 2 or 4 ohms and the cab is rated at 8. I know some people will say run it the way it is, but I really don't want to do that. Is there any way I can make these two get along?

Buy another 8 ohm cab or have your Orange rewired for 4ohms.

I have used a SVT with a single 8ohm for an entire gig (2nd speaker wasn't plugged in) and my SVT was fine, but I would strongly recommend not doing this.

No, but you do need to know what you're doing, or you could short it out and kill your SVT. First thing to do, is figure out what's in the cab, and how they're wired. Short of that, be more careful when buying gear- do the research before you buy.

...the head fell into my hands .... 400$ I couldn't say no. I usually am smarter with my gear purchases but I was amp less
an SVT classic head for 4 bones?

sounds pretty smart to me!

with 8Ω speakers, you can actually wire that cab with two jacks, one for 8Ω and one for 2Ω.

that way it's still useful paired with another matching 4x10 cab (what you really want to make that SVT rock) but you could use it by itself if need be.

marshall guitar cabs routinely come that way.

you use those big black plastic cliff jacks, which have extra switching contacts to make it happen.
