another arbitrary poll, an amp a bass 12's vs 10's, 8's vs 15's its all subjectional to so many factors its what you like, maybe it depends on how you haul your gear to your shows, i been on talk bass long enough and wasted enough coinage because i thought i was gonna like what someone else swore by. FORGET IT!! its what you like or can afford. its how you want your tone to be, if you'd rather play a squire than a rickenbacker big deal, if you choose SWR over Orange and your happy PERFECT,....
now lets get down to whats really important...Coke or Pepsi? Nike or Adidas...Chevy or Ford......

I think he's mostly right...there are guys that can make a 2x4 and two strings sound good.

What I have listed here are heads in the 3-$500 range (used), which is what I can afford. My point was to get an idea of how these amps sound compared to each other without having to buy each one. So far I think this has worked pretty well.

Just to answer questions about the rest of my setup, I play mostly blues and some classic rock through a '98 StingRay with a DR Bass 1580 and another 15 cab.

Squier Classic Vibe P-Bass (Nordy PU) into a sansamp (set in-between an svt and the "King's X" tone into the return of a 700RB-II into a GK NEO 4X12...............I am not only the bringer of tone but also the bringer of PAIN!!! LOL

I love my 700rb II so much, I just don't think about amplification. A micro head would be nice for small gigs when I'm doubling on sax (not there yet on bass). Genz Benz has impressed me with there micro amps. That's the route I would go.

I've only possessed the 700rbII (and still own), but I've played the LM's, Shuttle and Ampeg in the stores (I've heard all of these at various clubs with other players jamming on them). The 700rbII is a great head. Versatile, punchy, fast, light (I know...not micro light), and is destined to be a classic. It certainly has it's "thing" going on, but it's "thing" is pretty versatile. I don't get lost in the mix, and with a VT pedal in front, I can cover a great range of tones. If you look at it from a tone to cost ratio perspective, nothing on the list touches it.

I own the Markbass II amp and have been using it for years since it came out. I also had the Genz Benz shuttle 6.0. I found the GB to be harsh and not as powerful as the Markbass. I sold the GB shuttle 6.0 and kept my Markbass amp but i did pickup a Genz Benz 212T cabinet. That cab with the Markbass amp is amazing!
