Head or cab, which is more?

My amp head was around 680 after 15% off and my cab was around $640. However, I can get another cab to add to this cab to run at 4ohms ultimately making a complete setup with the cabinets costing more than the amp head by a margin. So far after a couple of practices I am liking my 4x10 setup. Loads louder than my solo practicing 1x15 combo, which was only 100 watt. I'm happy.

It seems to me that "common sense" (or at least, simply what comes first to the not-necessarily-well-informed mind) would suggest the amp head should/would cost significantly more. After all, with all those little electronic parts and new technology and filters and eq and tubes and solid state, etc... Surely that would cost more than a box with drivers in it, right? Of course, in my time here I've found that that is certainly not the case, as a lot goes in to a really well designed and well made speaker cabinet... and with machinery and robotics and mass production, all those electrical parts probably aren't as daunting as they may seem at first. Anyway, I'm not advocating that one should cost more or less than the other, I was just thinking about all that lately and was curious...

My single most expensive component is an amp head. (bass excluded)

However, I usually use more than one cab at a time, so that makes the cabs usually more expensive in the system.

The only time when the amp is more expensive than the cab, is when driving the Carvin LS1503 with the Eden WT800.

The balance will change when I get the ThunderFunk, hehehe.
