head wont fit in rack

I got a new head recently. Its a GK goldline glk500. It has two silver handles on the front as do many of the rack mountable heads I looked at. I put the thing in its new SKB case and the cover won't go on because the handles are to big. I am wanting to take them off. Anyone else ever had to do this? I assume it is pretty easy to do just open the top of the amp and unscrew something from the back. Is it really that easy and is there anything I should know before I do it (of course I will unplug the amp).

I had to reorient(flip around so that they curved inward/toward each other)the rack handles on my 700RB for the same reason; they(handles)were bolted onto the rack ears from behind. I'm not familiar w/Goldline stuff, but try to remove the rack ears if possible, then the handles. Hope this helps. :)
