I'm not going to stain the bare wood.
First I'll put water based grain filler, to make a flat surface,
then 3-4 clear polyurethane coats, and some tinted poly coats (vintage amber, and orange), topped with final coats of clear lacquer.
To finish the job I'll use micro mesh sanding pads and a polishing liquid to make it glossy.
The neck will have a clear finish, treated with light sanding fabrics, to keep it smooth.

Finished body - coated with my magical yacht satin varnish (poly based) after being sanded to a 400 grit, then polished with pads and fabrics to a sticky matte finish. This is absolutely the best product to use with swamp ash for that natural look.
