Nope. No pedals at the moment.

All of my basses have always been passive, or passive with an active preamp, so this is all new to me.

Anyone know if the EMG BTC preamp requires an additional battery?

Thanks for the response. I checked with EMG, and they confirmed that they're active pickups. They are RIDICULOUSLY hot. For lack of a better way to put it, they're "boomy" and "treble-y" (not sure that's a word) at the same time. I've never experienced both extremes on the same bass at the same time.

The BTC does not require another battery; you can run the pickups and a BTC from a single 9v.

Ok, so my Jack Bass arrived. The pickups have been swapped to active EMG HBs, but I have no clue what the tone control is. (As I posted earlier, this was the passive model w/only three knobs.) Single shaft, not stacked, and no push/pull. I've posted some pics below. Thoughts?

That circuit board doesn't look like anything I've seen from EMG, new or old. I had an old BTC; the stacked pot and circuit board was a single assembly, with solder pads for the pickup inputs, power wires, and outputs.

The current ones are pretty much the same, but they're solderless, they've got pins and plugs similar to PC mainboard headers instead of solder pads.

Those pickups must have power to function, but you can wire them up with passive style controls, volume-volume-tone or blend-volume-tone. Just use 25k audio taper pots and a 0.1uF capacitor.

I've actually had a bunch of Hohners, and they've all been really good. My first problem with one.

No diss on Hohner owners, but if you have a Steinberger, all the clones feel like toy copies. That was reflected in the price, of course. I'm lucky to have bought one when they were affordable, couldn't touch it now

I have owned both myself. Hohners are not toys nor are they cheap.

Never owned an Hohner but have played them a couple times at a local mom and pop shop at least twice a year (it's the Hohner B2A and has been in that shop since 2013!!) and they do not feel like cheap toys. Quite heavy actually but wasn't my kind of style for me.

Agreed. Not tremendously popular but not garbage by any stretch..

$1k for it..

And over the years it's been there, the pots are loose and scratchy when you engage the active switch. I never really bothered to pest them about the instrument cause I didn't care much for it. I could stop by there this weekend and take some photos to heighten your curiosity. Last time I stopped by the shop was in mid December.
