Headphones

Denon D-2000. Sealed cans make them appropriate for monitoring while recording. The frequency response into the highs and lows is astounding, yet they measure extremely flat. Low impedance makes them easy to drive with even the headphone jack of a laptop, although they only get better with a proper amp. Best of all, they can be found for <200 bucks. Lightweight and comfortable, these are my favorite headphones on the planet, and I've had a lot of cans as well as IEMs. Read about them here:

GK Ultraphones work well for me. When monitoring the board on a live gig, they block outside noise effectively, allowing me to hear the music clearly without overcranking the headphone volume.

When listening in a quiet environment, the sealed cups contain the sound effectively - there's no bleed from the headphones into nearby mics. Every time I let a drummer use 'em, they want to take 'em home.
