This was the main reason for those heavy-as-lead mic-stand bases, back in the 60's-70's heyday of sex, drugs and rock & roll. I've been knocked in the face by a mic, but she was cute and apologetic; it was really accidental. I've long known how to see such an incident coming, and prepare for it. Now, if a drunk dude manages to smack me with a mic, I might have to cross-check him with my steel-reinforced-neck G&L JB-2. Cecil the lion, R.I.P. Cecil the bass is a warrior with much life remaining.

Here's what's wrong with stories like this: A fight broke out right in front of the band last saturday night during the last song. We stopped, I unpluged my bass, and stepped off the front of the stage, with the intent of protecting our equipment with my bass. I grabbed it by the neck, ax style, when I realized some innocent person was about to get hurt. Where did I get such an evil idea? Here, of course!

I put the bass down, and defended the equipment with my body, fortunetly nothing and no one got hurt, thank god. I actually like the idea of "prodding" someone as opposed to bashing them.

I'm well aware that this sort of action will have its defenders. "Knocking him a few feet forward" with the pointy end of a guitar in his ass crack is not a reminder. It's assault. Touching someone while dancing with them is not assault. It's called dancing. Again, the contact may not have been appropriate, I get that. If you can walk up to a person and jab a guitar up their butt, you can walk up to them and ask them to stop touching your girlfriend - which is what the woman should have done...presuming she knows how much this sort of thing bothers her man. Nothing about this is defensible and boasting about it is deplorable.
