Im curious about the Headway bass pickup (HE2DB) on the strength of the EDB1 preamp and have a message out to John at Headway to see if I can get one for review here. Has anyone tried this pick up? It requires major surgery on the bridge feet to install cable piezo elements....the type used commonly in guitar bridge systems.
The specs printed below talk about discrete class A and 2 stage FET which I am hoping some of the tech dudes here can explain.
(I think discrete class A means point to point soldering without a circuit board and FET is some AMP stage that encourages warmth but thats what HE says)
But I have not seen a cable piezo for DB and I have a bridge to put it in. John really seems to have acoustic amplification dialed in pretty well and although my current system is excellent, I thought someone ought to find out about it.
The HE2 for Double Bass is a complete high-end active system which gives a natural tone and response, with minimum feedback and noise. As with all HE2 pick-ups, all-discrete, Class 'A' components provide clarity whilst FET phases generate warmth. Headway piezo-cable pick-ups fit into a slot routed under the bridge feet, pressured by Maple plugs, and made to measure to touch the instrument top. The 360-degree pick-up ensures good response between plucking and bowing. HE2s require professional installation, and we are happy to arrange this for you for £100 (incl VAT) with our new Double Bass pick-up Fitting Service. Simply send your fitted bridge to Headway to have the work done by a top London luthier.
