heavier strings = no fingertips?

I like heavier strings myself, the heavier they are the lower I can have my action without fretbuzz and that means I can play with a lighter touch.

played today for about 45 minutes, middle finger is dried out but still pretty tender don't know why the index finger seems to be more durable

Have you ever tried tapewounds? They are easy on the fingers and, to my ear, have a very nice sound.

I use rotosound rs 88s, which work well for me on my jazz. I have also heard good things about labella's.

switched back to the sb-2 with the hi beams, because the l2000 with the nickel rounds is at the museum in east LA for a sculpture, same gauge strings on the sb-2, same songs, same practice routine except now my fingers are not all chewed up with the hi beams, weird

I get sore fingertips, even a blister when we need to rehearse at low volume.
I worked out it was caused by plucking too hard at the strings to make myself heard when the other guys played too loud.
I have no problem at gigs because when my amp is cranked up I play with a lighter touch.

Thinner strings means you don't have to press down or pluck as hard. That's why I like em.

Thin = thin. My take is that you grind tone from heavy strings and high action.

What about putting band aids on your fingertips? Or wearing high quality thin gloves?

in 3 months when i get my l2k back, i'll be putting on hi beams or a coated equivalent i guess
