Methadrone. I believe they've added an acoustic guitar as of late, but something tells me that the heaviness wouldn't quite come from the acoustic guitar. 
FWIW also, I've shifted the concept of my own project recently, from guitar driven blackened death metal, to a doom metal sound based on my five string fretless (in standard tuning, mind you). I don't know when I'll have any songs recorded in entirety, but I'm working on it. Fuzzy slides are monolithically heavy, that's all I can say.

Since the original poster mentioned ELP [best old-school example to me of non-guitar heaviness], some similar required listening would be 2nd and 3rd releases by prog-rock supergroup UK: "Danger Money" and "Night after Night". Mostly powered by B3, Yamaha electric grand [back when they still had strings!], electric violin, and the legendary Yamaha CS80 synth, on top of the monster bass sound of John Wetton and virtuosity-on-steroids drums of Terry Bozzio [just before he started Missing Persons, as I recall].
One of my happiest days of recent years was finding these re-released on CD.

And DFA1979 really isn't that heavy; loud, maybe but not heavy.

Iron Point is Viola? That's crazy. I have that, and the one with their logo on a girl's underwear... the one with the girls underwear is guitar bass and drums right?

Yeah, the s/t is "spring-loaded" guitar (don't know exactly what that is). It's the guy from Ultralyd (who also have a release on Load, and a few others that I haven't been able to find).
