My name is Alan. I've been playing the bass for about 4 years now. I actually never got much into music until my friends needed a bassist for their band, so my mom got me a bass as a graduation present. My father is a classical musician, so he started teaching me the concept of scales, keys, etc. Since within a week's time I knew more about music than my band mates (never ask ignorant musicians what key they are in and never, ever tell the guitarist he is out of tune), they decided to kick me out. But I kept it up and am now a music major at CUNY in New York City. I play in the NYC ska band Not From Concentrate and am working at playing in my father's orchestra (The Richmond County Orchestra). It is really cool to find a forum for bass players on the internet. I've been a guest on this page and have learned some interesting things so I decided to join.
