Not much to say, 60 years old, started playing bass in 1980, never have considered myself anything but average at best.
Started playing out in a regular basis in 1994, started off in southern rock/blues bands, then quickly went to rock.
Switched to a 5 string after playing a 4 string BEAD due to all the drop D tunes.
Joined a corporate party band in 2002 and by 2005 that was all I did.
Stopped playing in 2012,. Did not touch the bass for 2 years. (huge mistake)
Started again in 2014, then in 2016 I decided to learn how to use my fingers and start playing up and down the strings vs up and down the neck.
My biggest flaws are;
A; I know my scale patterns but not always the actual notes
B; Same problem with the fret board but I have been improving.
(I have the first 5 frets down, anything pass the 7th is pushing it)
My Biggest strengths;
A; My timing is Perfect (I credit 5 years or marching band for that)
B; I'll play anything if you let me make it groove.
I am an old metal head but I play everything at home except rap and jazz.
I now use both a pick and my fingers depending on the song I'm covering.
My main rig is a Hartke 3500 Head with the Hartke XL 4-10 cab.
I have since built a single 10" cab and a single 15" cab.
I also own a Sunn S200 and B190 KT88 tube amps and each of those have a dual 15" Cabinets.
My rarest piece of gear a Heathkit 140 watt at 4 ohm home built amp I saved from the trash in a downpour. I have only heard of one other one.
I had to scrap the 2-12 combo cabinet due to space but I have managed to get the amp up to date.
My favorite bass is my Peavey fury 5.
Presently I am in an exciting start up and doing some fill in work for a couple of bands.
