Hello from Ohio, getting back into it. Trying

Hello,
I'm Enzo and live in NW Ohio. 56 year old bass player who had to take a couple years off thanks to hitting a deer while I was on my motorcycle. Here I am two surgeries later (waiting on two more), chomping at the bit needing to play again. Having some issues though. Pain and mobility issues are causing me some severe issues. My LB76 is just too much neck for me to deal with. My Ray35QM is right on the edge. I CAN play it, but I definitely don't enjoy it. I had a Squier classic vibe 70's precision for a couple weeks. I liked playing it so much that I had to actually make myself stop so I didn't tear my shoulder up. The six would tear it up instantly, and the five screws it up pretty quickly.
Squier just went back to AMS due to 2 frets starting to lift up. Not sure if I want to order another one, been really eyeing the yamaha BB434. Also REALLY wanting a Peavey Fury, tricky finding them for a good price. Not to mention, if I go new, I can make payments :P I'm also EXTREMELY tempted to get just a body. I have everything except the body for a 1990 Ibanez EXB 504 (my first bass ever that I got from the original owner in either late 90 or 91) Had it apart for painting before the wreck, it never got put back together, and then when I moved last year, the body must have got left behind :[ Decisions Decisions, lol. I need to figure something out so I can get playing again, it's been too long!!!

Welcome. I too took time off from bass but in my case it was 25 years, not a couple. So many great basses out there now, and great equipment, amps, pedals, etc. You'll get a lot of good input here on TB, but you'll all hear repeatedly that you should buy the bass that you are most comfortable with and that makes you want to play more. Personally, I don't like heavy basses either. I'm 70 and have a bad back, screwed it up in my early 40s, so I really like my lighter basses, like the Ibanez SR and the Sire P5. I think it's hard to beat Ibanez for making a quality, lightweight bass that's easy to play, but some don't like the thin necks. Both the Sire and the Ibanez balance well, which is also part of the equation for playability and ease on the shoulder. You may also consider a short scale bass, something with a smaller body. Depends on what works for you. Of course, all the 5 and 6 string basses are going to be heavier than the 4 strings.

Regarding your 1990 Ibanez, they have gotten a lot better since then, especially the electronics. Happy hunting.

Hi, Jazzy. Thanks for the welcome and the advice. The choices are indeed staggering. Things took a turn for the better, turns out a friend of mine has an old peavey bass, that he hasn't played in years. I'm pretty sure its a fury, at least that's what my old brain remembers, lol. I know it was a P config when he got it and that he replaced the P and added a neck humbucker (that I remember distinctly because I bought the neck pickup for him for christmas) So it's loaded with dimarzio will power pups. I dont know if he wired it with two outs or not. I know he was going to . Anyway, next time he gets a chance, he's going to drop it off for what he calls an "extended loan". He likely will never play it again (he's a six string carvin guy) so the deal is, I borrow it for as long as I want unless he winds up needing it for some unforeseen reason or I decide I'm done with it!!!
