Hello from SE England

I've looked at threads TalkBass many times, but I've finally joined, because it's a great resource and time I started adding to it.

It was probably about 1969 when I got my first bass, but I didn't play on a commercially released track until until 1978. It was 'He's Frank (Slight Return)' by The Monochrome Set.

That turned out to be about my only release, as I mostly played in covers and functions bands for many years, on the not-unreasonable grounds that I actually got paid. I have a ton of self-recorded material I hope to get around to releasing in the next year. Time is always the enemy when it comes to finishing it.

Although I currently own several basses at the moment, my main squeezes are two Fender Jazz Basses and an Ibanez ATK-700. I'm more than happy to share pics, although they look pretty much like everyone else's. The more interesting pics, IMO, are a 5-string fretless I'm in the process of building. That definitely doesn't look like everyone else's!

Thank you for allowing me to join your community. :)

Hi Simon that's pretty cool you were a member of The Monochrome Set. I am not too familiar with them but I know Andy Warren was with Adam and The Ants. I think he left, so Leigh (Leroy) Gorman took his place then they sacked Adam Ant and became Bow Wow Wow. I read they sacked Adam but most people think they quit to for BWW. Maybe that amounts to the same thing since the name Adam and The Ants was his not theirs. So that is the Monochrome Set's relation to BWW.

Thank you for the input. Andy Warren replaced me in TMS after I refused to cancel a holiday about an hour before my flight. Our manager had accepted a booking from Harvey Goldsmith to support Wire at the Lyceum. I told him that was rather stupid of him, as I would be in Bulgaria at the time. The first person I spoke to when I got back said: "I hear you're not in The Monochrome Set anymore!

We're still mates and I go to their gigs now and then.
