Hello TB users.
I'm a beginner bassist from Finland and have lurked TB from this year's Spring to understand the differences between the electric basses and different amps, in order to get a picture on what kind of a beginner rig I should get for myself.
I'm interested in playing different genres but having in mind that I have loved metal since my teenage years and that's an itch that's hard to dismiss even though I'm always trying to deepen and widen my perspectives on music.
I do not attempt to become a band player, just to play for my own amusement.
For now my rig consists of two 5-string basses: Spector Legend neck-thru 5 and Yamaha TRBX 605, with the intention of using the Spector for metal and the Yamaha for mellower stuff.
My amp is Eden Terra Nova TN501 with their own 2x10 vertical cab.
I became interested in the bass by first finding out that I'm not that interested in the guitar, the electric guitar doesn't click with me on a mental level but that I'm still interested in playing along with music and just to understand music on the playing level besides the listening level.
I find basses in general very pleasing to listen whereas the electric guitars and steel acoustics tend to fatigue my ears quite quickly. Nylons sound delightful but not as delightful as the electric basses.
Basses have a certain vibing element to them that I don't find in the electric guitars from my own perspective - basses and playing them looks fun. I also like the fact that basses are longer instruments with thicker strings, they feel substantially better to me to hold.
I don't know much of famous bass players since my revelation of myself being into the bass is so new but I can definitely say that Marco Hietala of Nightwish and Tarot has been one of the bassists whose tone and playing I have liked throughout the years as Nightwish is my all-time favorite band.
Listening music from the bass perspective instead of the usual guitar dominance can easily change opinions on bands, artists and genres. For example one metal band that I didn't care about before was Lamb of God, but giving them a try from the bass point of view has made me like them a lot.
The nickname comes from my adoration for pugs although I don't have one. My favorite internet famous pug is a Russian pug called Leonid.
