Hi there, not sure if this is where I post this but has anyone had success putting an amp/amp head chassis in a rack case for protection/portability? I gig a fair amount and less to haul around is optimal and I have an insatiable DIY attitude, keeps things fun. I'm not sure if this is where I post this as being a new member I have this feeling again like walking into a classroom for the first time haha. Thank you!
If you have a rack mountable head, then yes, a rack is great. I have my head, a power conditioner and a wireless in mine. I store my cables in the back and even my stand sometimes.
Yes that is what I am asking. There are great heads out there from the 70s and 80s (great in my opinion, not saying that everyone needs to agree because its all subjective) and wanted to know if anyone has ever stuffed one in a rack case
First off, welcome to TB. Right place, but such a generic post title gets passed right over sometimes by the people you'd most like to read your thread. The worst offender might be "Quick Question." I think you can still edit your title, not positive on that though. OK, many old amp heads are ~22-25" wide, and a standard 19" format rack only gives room for 17-18" internal at best. Heavy duty rack cases are really expensive, and in many cases will need additional machining for ventilation, especially if it's a tube amp. So my quick questions are: What amp, specifically? How strong are your electronics and electromechanical chops, and how well equipped is your workshop?
After thinking more about this, maybe I should try a power amp, DI pedal setup. I need that backline just for small monitoring but most is through the FOH. I think I'm just a goofy DIY guy looking for projects. I have no idea why
