Hello Seattle

Hi,

Sorry for the late notice but my wife and I fly into Seattle for the weekend tomorrow. We are stay close to the needle and hoping to get some ideas!!! We plan to do the typical touristy stuff but hope to get a cool idea or two!!

We are down to see a show on Friday or Saturday as long as it's not to far from the hotel. No car this weekend, only feet and bikes!

Also, if one of my TB brothers or sisters want to try to meet up and say hi, I'm down!

Well, shoot! I'm busy doing all kinds of things. I won't be much of a local guide in person.

Since you will be near the Space Needle, you will be near Lake Union and the Museum of Pop Culture. Getting closer to downtown is easy enough on the monorail. It is short and useless for most people. From the Space Needle to Westlake Center is all it does, but that's about all you need to get within a fairly easy walk to Pike Place Market. The other direction along Westlake Avenue gets you to Fremont, across the Fremont Bridge, and from there, to Ballard. I don't know who is playing in Ballard, but there's always music in a number of venues. There's the Ballard Locks for amusement. Watching crusty lock operators giving occasional pleasure boat yachters the what for can be pretty funny. I don't believe the salmon are running right now, so the fish ladder won't be much to see. There might be something swimming around there.

There's plenty more to look at, and it's all different from Denver.

Get a burger and fries from Dick's, the later at night the better it is.
Check out Uptown Espresso (home of the velvet foam) or Slate. Caffe Ladro too. Don't buy any coffee from Starbucks, they are not the coffee of choice for true Washingtonians.
Don't give the homeless people anything, and don't let them fool you. They eat better than some of the working class in Seattle.

But Seattle is full of great places to eat

Thank you so much for the ideas! We are right across the street from Dicks so we're gonna eat there tonight. Tomorrow, we're gonna do the Space Needle and the glass museum and the pop culture museum. So far, this is a very cool city! There is so many cool things to see!

I'll add:
Discovery Park for an in city hike.

Ballard for microbrew paradise pub crawl.

Dusty Strings, Bass shop, Trading musician and Mike's guitars (just heard about this in another thread, haven't been myself) for music stores.

Hi Dive in Fremont is a great small venue for smaller (eg cheap) shows.

+1 Cafe Ladro. I also like Cafe Fiore.

The list goes on and on... so much fun stuff.

Can anyone confirm that going to Pike Place Market on Sunday is the best? We heard that there is more stuff on Sundays than other days.

Pike Place Market is busy all the time during the day, but it is true that more of the vendors booths are open on weekends.
Be aware that it shuts down at 6:00PM, so don't wait till late.
If you like whiskey, check out Radiator. It's in the market, above Corner Produce.
I should have planned my day better. We're at the market now, but fixing to leave in a few minutes.
If you have time, wander down to Pioneer Square and check out Smith Tower. Awesome views at the top, and the antique elevator is way cool.
If you want the best views from up high, the Columbia Center is the way to go. It's taller and a fraction of the price of the Space Needle.

Thanks everybody for the suggestions so far. My wife and I are quick to realize that we won't be able hit all the cool spots this weekend. Seattle is just way too big and there's way too many cool things to see!!

We saw the Edgewater yesterday during our Duck Tour and learned about some of the history of the hotel. I looked up the mud shark with Zappa and learned about the story.

The coolest thing happen while we were at the Chiculy Garden and Glass!!! Mr. Chiculy was there and signing his books!!! When it was our turn, I bent over and asked if I could shake his and when I accepted, I said," thank you for making not only America a more beautiful place, thank you for the world more beautiful." He turned and looked at me and said," no, no thank you." What a great day!!!
